Troubleshooting M1 Issues

Common M1 connection problems and how to fix them.

Fiber broadband speed is much slower than the 3 Gbps or 10 Gbps plan maximum

Cause: WiFi bottleneck, outdated router, or devices that do not support WiFi 7 or ethernet speeds above 1 Gbps.

  1. Connect via ethernet cable to rule out WiFi as the issue
  2. Use a Cat 6a or Cat 7 ethernet cable for speeds above 1 Gbps
  3. Verify your router supports WiFi 7 or multi-gig ethernet
  4. Check if your device network adapter supports speeds above 1 Gbps
  5. Run a speed test at different times to check for congestion patterns

5G speeds are slower than expected, closer to 4G performance

Cause: Connected to a congested 5G tower, non-standalone 5G, or device limitations.

  1. Ensure your phone supports 5G Standalone. Not all 5G phones do
  2. Move to a different location to connect to a less congested tower
  3. Toggle airplane mode on and off to force reconnection
  4. Check the M1 network status page for maintenance in your area
  5. Contact M1 support if 5G speeds consistently stay below 50 Mbps
