Cable Broadband

Eltrona operates Luxembourg's largest cable network, passing 85% of households with DOCSIS 3.1 coaxial infrastructure. The network supports download speeds up to 1 Gbps but upload is limited to 100 Mbps.

The cable network uses hybrid fiber-coaxial architecture with over 600 distribution nodes nationwide. Eltrona partnered with ARRIS to deploy Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) for DOCSIS 3.1 capacity.

Mobile Networks

5G operates on 700 MHz for wide coverage, 2100 MHz for capacity, and 3.6 GHz for high-speed urban service.

Satellite Internet

Luxembourg hosts major data centers and internet exchange points serving the financial sector. These southern border towns near France outperform Luxembourg City due to lower network congestion and newer fiber builds. Luxembourg City averages slightly slower speeds despite extensive infrastructure because more simultaneous users create peak-hour congestion.

The urban-rural gap in Luxembourg is smaller than most EU countries due to the compact geography and high investment per capita. Even rural areas typically have cable or strong 5G coverage.

Tango

Tango serves 15-20% of subscribers with competitive fiber pricing. Tango targets price-sensitive customers and markets heavily to younger demographics. Tango operates FTTH in major urban centers and partners with POST for coverage in smaller towns.

Eltrona

Eltrona won the nPerf 2025 gold medal for fixed network performance despite using cable instead of fiber. Eltrona serves 10-15% of the market, appealing to customers prioritizing download speed over symmetrical uploads. Eltrona is transitioning parts of its network to FTTH for better upload performance.

Fixed Broadband Pricing

Entry-level fiber in Luxembourg starts at EUR 50-55 per month for 250-500 Mbps symmetrical. POST charges EUR 50/month for 250 Mbps fiber. Orange offers 500 Mbps for EUR 55/month. Tango's promotional rate is EUR 50/month for 1 Gbps (first 24 months). Most plans require 24-month contracts, though month-to-month options exist at EUR 10-15 more per month.

Mid-tier gigabit plans cost EUR 60-75 per month. POST's 1 Gbps symmetrical costs EUR 70/month. Tango GO Fibre M at 1 Gbps runs EUR 60/month standard rate. Orange 2 Gbps costs EUR 75/month. Cable from Eltrona at 1 Gbps (100 Mbps upload) costs EUR 55/month, positioning it as the budget gigabit option.

Premium fiber at 8 Gbps costs EUR 90-100 per month from POST and Orange. These plans target businesses and power users requiring extreme upload capacity for cloud backup or content creation.

Contract and Fees

Luxembourg has no data caps on fixed broadband. All providers offer unlimited data at every speed tier. Router rental costs EUR 5-10/month, though customers can use their own equipment.

Affordability

At median household income of roughly EUR 70,000/year, a EUR 60/month broadband plan represents about 1% of income.
